Letter of Solidarity with Ambassador Peter Fischer
We, representatives of Georgian civil society, express our strongest solidarity with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Georgia, His Excellency Peter Fischer.
At a time when democratic values and Georgia’s European future are under attack, Ambassador Fischer has consistently and courageously defended the principles of freedom, openness, and democracy. His voice has been one of clarity and conviction, reminding both the authorities and society that Georgia’s rightful place is in the family of European nations.
It is precisely because of this principled stance that the Ambassador has become the target of baseless, aggressive, and dishonest attacks by the Georgian Dream authorities. These personal insults and propagandistic narratives are not isolated incidents. They are part of a deliberate and systematic campaign of disinformation and hostility aimed not only at Germany, but also at other Western partners – including the European Union, United Kingdom, and the United States – who have stood firmly by Georgia for decades. From humanitarian aid and development assistance to steadfast diplomatic and political backing, Germany and its partners have been among the most consistent friends of the Georgian people.
The attempt to discredit and personally attack a respected representative of such a close partner country and our guest is deeply alarming. These actions damage Georgia’s international reputation, undermine our strategic interests, and most dangerously, create distance between Georgia and those allies who have invested so much in supporting our independence, security, and democratic development. Instead of strengthening Georgia’s sovereignty, such narratives only weaken our resilience, foster division, and serve the interests of those who do not wish to see Georgia succeed on its European path.
False narratives about the lack of Western support to Georgia and its citizens have no basis in fact. On the contrary, it is precisely Germany, the UK, and other European nations that have consistently advocated for Georgia’s integration into Euro-Atlantic structures and have defended our sovereignty in the face of external threats.
As civil society organizations committed to Georgia’s democratic future, we declare our unambiguous support for Ambassador Fischer and for all representatives of partner countries who, despite hostility and slander, continue to defend the right of Georgians to freedom, democracy, and European integration.
Their solidarity with our people deserves recognition, gratitude, and respect.
Civil society in Georgia stands united with Ambassador Fischer. We will continue to raise our voices against propaganda, against manipulation, and against the erosion of Georgia’s historic choice for Europe. The values of truth, dignity, democracy, and freedom will prevail.
