Disarmament and international Security is the First Committee of the General Assembly (GA), it is also known as DISEC or just Disarmament. It was established in 1979, after the first Special Session on Disarmament of the GA in 1978. The committee’s main concerns are with security, challenges and threats to the peace of the global community, promoting cooperative arrangements and strengthening stability. Within the scope of the charter, DISEC is the main character in maintaining international global peace. This is done through creating principles for the governing of disarmament issues and putting regulations on arms control. DISEC works in close cooperation with the United Nations Disarmament Commission and the Conference on Disarmament, which is Geneva based, in order to reach its goals in strengthening and promoting global peace and security.
